Frank did what Daniel said and went into the storm. Desmond then returned to find himself in the royal army of England, back in the present, unable to remember Sayid and others. Jack thinks they left for a day without news and is worried, but Daniel says it hasn't been that long, and says if Frank follows his instructions to fly, it will be ok, or there will be side effects. The plane lands on the ship, where Keamy and Omar first question Frank to bring them and take Desmond to the medical room. Sayid trades Frank for a phone call to Jack, and Daniel explains that many people come to the island in chaos, but not amnesia. George Minkowski, who was tied to his bed in the medical room, said he had just been in another place and that doctor Ray thought he was crazy and gave him an injection. Desmond goes back in time to call Penny, but Penny hangs up. When Sayid and Frank come in and ask Daniel to contact him, Ray presses the button to inform others. Desmond thought it was 1996, and Daniel told him to go to queen's college, Oxford, to find himself. If you can't convince yourself, say he knows Eloise. Desmond went back and did so, and Daniel successfully sent Eloise the white rat to the future. Geroge said he had been in charge of the boat, but was turned in and barred from receiving Penny's calls. Desmond wakes up in Oxford and is told he has been unconscious for 75 minutes, but he's only five minutes in the future, and Daniel says every time his consciousness travels back to the future, it's harder to get back to the original state. Eloise dies for reasons unknown, Desmond realizes he may die. Daniel tells him that he needs a constant in the future to find such a deep thing in his heart that exists in both time and space. He calls Penny and changes the number. With Geroge's help they went to the signal room when someone opened the door to close them. Desmond went to the auction to find Penny's father and get her new address. On the way to the signal room, George said that another crew member had visited the island with him, and that Brandon had gone mad and died when he returned. In the signal room they saw that it was Christmas Eve. Desmond, like Geroge, had a nosebleed. George dies and says he can't come back. Desmond finally got Penny's new number and told her to call her on Christmas Eve eight years later. Sayid got the phone fixed, but it didn't last long, but Penny said she had been looking for him for three years before she found out Charlie wasn't dead. They exchanged confidences, and she said she would find him. Daniel went through his notes and found that if something happened, Desmond was his constant.
