In 1943, when the KMT and the CPC joined forces in the war of resistance against Japan, Shen Li, a patriotic youth and son of Shang merchant family, was forced to flee to Yanan, the sacred place in his heart. Unexpectedly, the introducer and old capitalist Red Star, Shang Xing, were apprehended by Kuomintang authorities. Shen Li is determined to succeed Laoxing, regard shopping malls as battlefields and raise money for the Communist Party of China with its own unique business methods. Zhang ShuHeng, Kuomintang Economic Investigation Agency commissioner, hindered Shen Li in exploiting the self-interest nature of this former co-founder and shielding himself with each other's identity. With Ding Minqiu's assistance, he sent a batch of military supplies and funds to the anti-Japanese front. As the victory of the Liberation War was imminent, Shen Li was hunted down to stop Zhang ShuHeng from smuggling large amounts of gold out of the country. In order to protect Shen Li, Ding MinQiu and Zhang ShuHeng are at the same time. The sacrifice of Ding MinQiu shocked Shen Li and reminded him of the teachings of Lao Xing. He took the oath in the face of the party flag and sacrificed his life for the new China.
